Recent arrivals - September 2011

Here are some places that have opened and a few that have closed in King’s Cross in the last couple of months:

  • gelato_mio1.jpg
  • Gelato Mio, the Italian ice cream makers with a rapidly growing following opened in St Pancras station, at the site vacated by Crêpe Affaire.
  • be_at_one1.jpg
  • The B@1 chain of cocktail bars is also expanding and have moved into the Caledonian Road in place of the Ruby Lounge.
  • burrito_cafe1.jpg
  • Also new on Caledonian Road is the Burrito Café, which sells burritos and other Mexcian food to eat in or take away.
  • pret_a_manger_york_way1.jpg
  • Pret a Manger opened their fourth branch in the area, a nice spacious one up York Way, no doubt with one eye on the 5000 Central St Martins students who will be arrving up here soon, as well as giving Guardian and other Kings Place office workers a convenient spot to grab some lunch.
  • navyas1.jpg
  • To fit better with its recent reinvention as a Malaysian restaurant, Swintons wine bar has been re-named Navya’s.

Sadly, given its ethos and the huge fanfare that greeted its arrival, eco-restaurant Acorn House has closed. Tassili Coffee was a decent cafe in King’s Cross Road which has also closed.

Finally we are keeping an eye on The Brill which has closed for re-furbishment, although I have heard rumours that it will re-open as a bar.
